Medchal SR Office wall demolished illegally

Metro India News | MEDCHAL : Alleged encroachers demolished a portion of the compound wall of the District and Sub-Registrar (SR) Office in Medchal and constructed an unauthorised gate for their convenience, triggering allegations of official negligence and delayed police action.

The District and Sub-Registrar offices were recently shifted from a rented building on the National Highway to the vacant Zilla Parishad building after the government directed departments functioning in rented premises to move into available government buildings. The Zilla Parishad and Mandal Parishad offices had become vacant after Medchal district was declared an urban district.

Following the relocation, the area witnessed a sharp increase in public footfall, leading to higher demand for nearby commercial spaces and a rise in rents. Taking advantage of the situation, some persons allegedly demolished a section of the compound wall and constructed a gate to create direct access to the rear side of the premises, avoiding the longer route through the main entrance.

Locals alleged that the compound wall was demolished and the gate constructed with prior knowledge of the authorities, but no action was taken while the work was in progress. They questioned why officials remained silent during the construction and filed a police complaint only after the work had been completed.

Although the Sub-Registrar lodged a complaint with Medchal police, residents alleged that the complaint was merely a formality. They said the authorities should have intervened immediately when the compound wall was being demolished instead of approaching the police after the construction was completed.

Based on the complaint, Medchal police registered a case and launched an investigation. However, locals claimed the probe has been moving slowly despite the identities of those responsible allegedly being known. They said police have been visiting the site regularly but have not arrested the accused.

Medchal ACP Shankar Reddy also inspected the demolished compound wall and the newly constructed gate. Residents demanded that the police immediately identify and arrest those responsible, remove the illegal gate, reconstruct the compound wall, and initiate legal action against officials for failing to protect government property.
