The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) is taking measures to reduce pressure on the city’s drinking water resources by promoting the use of treated water for non-potable purposes.

As part of these efforts, HMWSSB Managing Director K. Ashok Reddy inspected the Green Water Filling Station at Kokapet on Thursday. Ashok Reddy inspected the water quality testing laboratory at the filling station and reviewed the testing procedures, quality parameters and process for recording results with officials.

He directed the Pollution Control Board (PCB) and the concerned HMWSSB departments to work in coordination and conduct regular water quality tests in accordance with prescribed standards. The Managing Director instructed officials to upload test results online promptly and establish a system to enable real-time monitoring from the HMWSSB head office. He asked them to coordinate with the board’s IT department to complete the necessary technical arrangements, stressing the need to maintain transparent and up-to-date water quality records.

He also emphasized the need for strict monitoring of the quantity of treated water supplied to tankers. Officials were directed to establish separate filling limits for tankers of different capacities and accurately record the quantity of water dispensed into each vehicle, along with other filling details. Ashok Reddy further instructed officials to install a control mechanism to prevent tankers from being filled beyond their prescribed capacity.

He urged officials to promote the use of treated water in construction, industrial operations, road cleaning, dust suppression and garden maintenance, reducing dependence on potable water for such activities. He stressed that water quality, supply volumes and safety standards at Green Water Filling Stations must be monitored continuously. STP CGM Padmaja and other officials participated in the inspection.
