Malla Reddy Narayana hospital cures rare cancer

A 27-year-old patient from a remote tribal village of Konam in Anakapalli district, diagnosed with a meditational germ cell tumor, was referred to Malla Reddy Narayana Multispeciality Hospital, where he received comprehensive evaluation and multidisciplinary cancer care. After a thorough clinical evaluation, the Surgical Oncology team planned a sternotomy with excision of the residual mediastinal tumor—a technically challenging procedure because of the tumor’s location near vital organs and major blood vessels.

The surgery was successfully performed on 29 July 2026 by Dr. Harish Dara, Senior Consultant Surgical Oncologist & Dr. Mahesh Bejagam, Consultant Surgical Oncologist, with the support of the hospital's multidisciplinary medical and surgical team. Following surgery, the patient received comprehensive post-operative care, recovered steadily, and was discharged in stable condition on 3 August 2026.

Speaking about the case, Dr. Harish Dara & Dr. Mahesh Bejagam mentioned that patients from remote and tribal regions often face additional barriers long before they reach a specialist and added that the patient responded well to chemotherapy, facilitating the doctors to safely perform surgery and remove the residual tumor.
