French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday highlighted the need for India and France to develop their own AI capabilities, ensuring that artificial intelligence serves humanity without overreliance on a few global powers.
In a move to strengthen cooperation in healthcare and emerging technologies, Macron and Union Health Minister J P Nadda inaugurated the Indo-French Centre for AI in Health (IF-CAIH) at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi. The centre aims to advance AI-driven research, medical education, and clinical innovation to tackle complex healthcare challenges.
Macron stressed responsible AI adoption, noting the importance of protecting children, ensuring transparency in algorithms to reduce bias, and preserving linguistic and cultural diversity—areas where India and France share common values. He encouraged students and young researchers to explore innovation-driven solutions in healthcare.
The IF-CAIH is established under an MoU between AIIMS Delhi, Sorbonne University, and the Paris Brain Institute, with academic collaboration from the Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi and leading French institutions. The initiative builds on existing cooperation in digital health, antimicrobial resistance, human resources for health, and responsible use of health data.
The launch coincided with the Rencontres Universitaires Et Scientifiques De Haut Niveau (RUSH) 2026, a series of academic meetings at AIIMS Delhi. A dedicated session, ‘Indo-French Forum: AI in Brain Health and Global Healthcare,’ brought together scientists, policymakers, and academic leaders to discuss global mental health challenges and cross-border research collaboration.
A special session, ‘RUSH – Conversation on Artificial Intelligence,’ saw Macron interact with young Indian innovators, highlighting youth-led innovation and the transformative potential of AI in building inclusive and sustainable futures. The programme also showcased key milestones in Indo-French scientific and academic cooperation, reflecting the growing knowledge partnership between the two nations.
