BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Revanth Reddy over his remarks that Telangana had become a bankrupt state, accusing him of damaging the state's image and misleading people about its financial condition. He asserted that Telangana was not bankrupt and alleged that it was the Congress government's corruption, mismanagement and policy failures that were pushing the state towards financial distress.
Throwing an open challenge, KTR said he was ready to debate the Congress government's performance on farmers, agriculture, the economy or any other sector at any venue and time chosen by the Chief Minister. He declared that if he failed to prove the government's shortcomings with facts and statistics, he would resign from politics. KTR alleged that Revanth Reddy repeatedly insulted Telangana by portraying it as a bankrupt state and questioned his frequent visits to New Delhi if he believed the state received no respect from the Centre.
Defending the previous BRS government led by K. Chandrashekar Rao, KTR claimed Telangana had recorded significant progress in agriculture, irrigation and economic growth despite limited Central support. He also accused the Chief Minister of exaggerating the state's debt burden, saying the Centre's figures were much lower than those projected by the state government.
Accusing the Congress of betraying farmers, KTR alleged that it had failed to fulfil promises on Rythu Bandhu, farm loan waiver, tenant farmer assistance and other welfare measures, leaving cultivators in distress. He claimed the government owed farmers more than rs 1 lakh crore in pending commitments and urged the Chief Minister to stop making statements that, he said, tarnished Telangana's reputation.
