Kazipet railway station that links so many destinations and is the heartbeat of the South Central Railway is about to be transformed with the sanction of Rs 24.45 crore under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). It will be one among the 40 railway stations that are being redeveloped at an estimated cost of Rs 2,737 crore.

The goal is to provide world-class facilities for passengers and turn these stations into dynamic growth hubs for the regional population.

It may be noted that the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stones for station redevelopment projects in Telangana in August 2023 and February 2024. Among the prominent projects is the large-scale modernization of Secunderabad Railway Station, which is being revamped to meet global standards.

To further ease congestion in Hyderabad’s twin cities region, the Charlapalli Railway Station is being developed as an alternate terminal with state-of-the-art facilities, ensuring greater convenience for passengers.

Kazipet was established in 1888 as part of the Nizam's Guaranteed State Railway (NGSR), Kazipet has a rich history intertwined with India’s railway heritage. Initially built on the Secunderabad-Delhi railway line, the station was pivotal for transporting coal, cotton, and other goods across British India. The town has also been home to a cosmopolitan populace with Anglo Indians who played a major part in the development of the railways in the region.

* Category and Division: Falls under the Secunderabad Division and is classified as a Non-Suburban Grade-3 (NSG-3) station.

* Passenger Traffic and Revenue: Serves an average daily footfall of 24,269 passengers and generates annual earnings of ₹41.36 crores.

* Train Connectivity: Hosts 4 pairs of origina-ting/terminating trains.

Offers stoppages for approximately 98 trains, including important superfast trains to New Delhi, Howrah, Chennai, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Secunderabad, and Tirupati.

* Redevelopment Plans: The station’s ₹24.45-crore modernization project will deliver upgraded amenities and enhance passenger convenience.
