With obesity emerging as a major public health challenge, Kamineni Hospitals has launched a dedicated Weight Loss Centre to provide comprehensive and personalized obesity management through a multidisciplinary approach.

Doctors at the launch event highlighted the growing burden of obesity across all age groups and warned that the condition is increasingly contributing to lifestyle-related diseases. Dr. B. Sravya, Consultant Endocrinologist, said obesity should be treated as a chronic disease rather than a lifestyle issue. She noted that it is closely linked to Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, fatty liver disease, sleep apnea, infertility, osteoarthritis and certain cancers. Even a 5–10 percent reduction in body weight can significantly improve overall health, she said.

Dr. Bhavani, Senior Consultant Diabetologist, said nearly 890 million people worldwide and over 250 million adults in India are living with obesity. She added that childhood and adolescent obesity is also increasing rapidly, with Telangana emerging as a major obesity hotspot.

Dr. D. Srinagavani, Head of Physiotherapy, stressed the importance of structured exercise programmes in maintaining mobility, preserving muscle mass and preventing weight regain. Consultant Nutritionist B. Santosha highlighted the role of personalized diet plans in managing obesity and related disorders.

The new centre offers obesity assessment, metabolic and genetic risk evaluation, nutrition counselling, exercise programmes, medical management, behavioural support and long-term follow-up under one roof.
