The Filmnagar Police have arrested 20-year-old Kalyan Babu for allegedly stalking, eloping with, and sexually exploiting a 15-year-old minor girl from the Scheduled Tribes community on Friday.
According to the police, Kalyan Babu had been in a relationship with the girl for two years before eloping with her in November 2024. He took her to Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, and Yadadri, where they got married. The accused allegedly sexually exploited her during this period.
The girl’s parents had lodged a missing complaint at the Filmnagar Police Station, prompting an investigation. She was later found and reunited with her family. However, she left home again during the Sankranti holidays and refused to return.
Based on the investigation, police arrested Kalyan Babu on March 7, 2025. He has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. These charges carry a punishment of over 10 years in prison.
The accused has been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody as the investigation continues.
Cyberabad police conduct special drives, arrest 315 violators
Cyberabad Police carried out large-scale special drives across all zones on Friday, under the supervision of all zonal DCPs. The operation involved various police wings, including local police stations, the Special Operations Team (SOT), the Women Safety Wing, and SHE Teams.
As part of the crackdown, police conducted raids at isolated areas, farmhouses, pubs, and hookah centers. Special checks were also carried out on vehicles, suspected drug users, and drunk drivers. The authorities focused on curbing social vices such as open alcohol consumption, late-hour violations, and other illegal activities.
During the operation, police raided 186 locations and apprehended a total of 315 individuals. Among them, eight were found positive for ganja consumption. A total of 300 cases were registered for public alcohol consumption, while seven individuals were booked for street prostitution. Additionally, one case was filed under the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA).
Cyberabad Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and urged the public to abide by legal regulations. They assured that such special drives would continue to ensure the safety and security of citizens.
