The Traffic Police of Hyderabad carried out a two-day special enforcement drive against drunken driving on March 20 and 21, 2026, intensifying efforts to improve road safety across the city. During the crackdown, a total of 343 motorists were caught driving under the influence of alcohol.

Among those booked, the majority were two-wheeler riders at 287, followed by 24 three-wheeler drivers and 32 four-wheeler and other vehicle operators. Officials said the figures highlight the continued prevalence of drunk driving, particularly among two-wheeler users.

Data from the drive revealed varying levels of blood alcohol concentration (BAC) among offenders. As many as 71 cases fell in the 30–50 mg/100 ml range, while 143 drivers recorded levels between 51–100 mg/100 ml. Another 77 cases were in the 101–150 range, 30 between 151–200, 14 between 201–250, and eight drivers registered BAC levels above 250, including four exceeding 300 mg/100 ml.

The Traffic Police reiterated a strict zero-tolerance policy towards drunken driving and warned that such special drives will continue regularly. Commuters have been urged to follow traffic rules and cooperate with enforcement authorities to ensure safer roads.
