Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav has said that government hospitals have witnessed significant improvements in service delivery, infrastructure utilization, and public trust during the two years of the NDA coalition government’s tenure. Releasing an eight-page performance report on the health sector, the minister highlighted substantial gains in staff attendance, patient services, surgeries, and diagnostic testing.

Addressing a press conference in Vijayawada, Satya Kumar Yadav stated that the attendance of doctors and healthcare staff in government hospitals increased by 28.13 percent over the past two years. Staff attendance, which stood at 65.36 percent in 2023-24, rose to 83.75 percent in 2025-26 due to strict monitoring and accountability measures introduced by the government.

The minister said the improved attendance translated into better healthcare outcomes. The number of surgeries performed in government hospitals increased by 37.38 percent, rising from 15.13 lakh in 2023-24 to 20.79 lakh in 2025-26. Diagnostic tests recorded an even sharper increase of 56.14 percent, growing from 7.98 crore tests to 12.47 crore during the same period. Outpatient and inpatient services also registered significant growth across primary, secondary, and teaching hospitals.

According to the minister, government efforts to enforce discipline and accountability among medical staff played a crucial role in driving these improvements. He noted that disciplinary action, including termination of services of 51 senior doctors who remained absent from duty for extended periods, helped strengthen attendance and service delivery.

Citing examples from across the state, Satya Kumar Yadav said outpatient services at the Madhurawada Primary Health Centre in Vizianagaram district increased by 31 percent, while services at Kurnool district’s Kolli PHC grew by 23 percent. Regional hospitals in Cheepurupalli and Palamaner also reported substantial growth in patient services, surgeries, and diagnostic tests. Teaching hospitals in Tirupati, Visakhapatnam, and Kurnool likewise recorded significant increases in patient footfall and surgical procedures.

The minister also rejected allegations by former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy that the Dr. NTR Vaidya Seva scheme had been weakened. He said the number of beneficiaries under the scheme rose from an annual average of 8 lakh during the previous government to 14 lakh under the coalition government, representing a 70 percent increase. Annual expenditure under the scheme increased from Rs 2,315 crore to Rs 3,805 crore, he added.

Highlighting emergency medical services, Satya Kumar Yadav said response times for 108 ambulance services have improved considerably. Ambulances now reach patients faster in urban, rural, and tribal areas, while 95 percent of emergency cases are being shifted to hospitals within the golden hour.

The minister also unveiled details of the upcoming Sanjeevani initiative, a comprehensive digital healthcare platform aimed at creating electronic health records for every citizen. Scheduled for statewide implementation in August, the programme seeks to strengthen preventive healthcare, improve disease surveillance, and ensure seamless access to medical services across Andhra Pradesh.

He expressed confidence that ongoing reforms would further enhance the quality of healthcare services and help build a healthier Andhra Pradesh.
