In a fiery media briefing at the Telugu Desam Party headquarters in Mangalagiri, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha launched a scathing attack on the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), accusing it of exploiting sensitive issues for political gain.
Citing a recent incident in Srikakulam where a degree student fainted after an alleged assault, the minister stated that misinformation was spread by YSRCP leaders and media to politicize the event. “The hostel warden who misreported the incident has been suspended, but YSRCP is spreading baseless allegations of sexual assault,” she said.
Anitha accused YSRCP leaders of deliberately distorting facts for political mileage. She questioned the morality of spreading false claims about an attack when the official inquiry had confirmed no sexual assault. “How can you malign a young girl’s dignity without verifying the truth? Have you considered the impact on her family?” she asked.
Contrasting the previous YSRCP regime, Anitha highlighted the TDP-led coalition government’s swift response to crimes against women. “If a crime occurs, we act immediately. Within an hour, our police ensure arrests and justice without compromise,” she asserted. She cited the recent case in Anakapalli where a hockey player was swiftly arrested for assaulting a woman.
“The spread of false information can have serious consequences. Be responsible on social media. We will conduct thorough investigations and take legal action against those spreading baseless accusations,” she said.
