Dr. Raman Sundaram takes charge as NAARM Director

Renowned agricultural scientist and rice biotechnologist Dr. Raman Meenakshi Sundaram has assumed charge as Director of the ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management (NAARM), Hyderabad.

With over 25 years of service in the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Dr. Sundaram brings extensive experience in agricultural research, biotechnology, innovation management, and institutional leadership. Prior to this appointment, he served as Director of the ICAR-Indian Institute of Rice Research (IIRR), Hyderabad.

A Fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Dr. Sundaram is widely known for his contributions to crop biotechnology, molecular breeding, and genomics-assisted crop improvement. He played a key role in developing the bacterial blight-resistant rice variety “Improved Samba Mahsuri,” regarded as a landmark achievement in molecular breeding.

Dr. Sundaram has published extensively in international journals and received several prestigious honours, including the ICAR Lal Bahadur Shastri Outstanding Young Scientist Award. He holds a B.Sc. in Agriculture from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, an M.Sc. from G.B. Pant University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Hyderabad.
