Kabul: Afghanistan’s ministry of defence on Wednesday claimed its forces carried out airstrikes on alleged ISIS targets in Pakistan’s Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday night.
It said the strikes targeted facilities allegedly used to plan attacks in Afghanistan and coordinate bombings that targeted Afghan civilians. It identified the locations as the Saranan area of Pishin district in Balochistan, Qambar Khel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Garam Chashma in Chitral.
The ministry said the strikes caused heavy casualties and significant financial losses to IS and its supporters. The operation was carried out with high precision and caused no civilian casualties.
The ministry warned Afghan air defence forces would target any location used to undermine Afghanistan’s security.
Pak rejects India’s kabul remarks
Pakistan on Wednesday rejected India’s criticism of its June 29 airstrikes in Afghanistan, saying the operation targeted “terrorist infrastructure”.
India had condemned the strikes, which reportedly killed several civilians, as a “blatant act of aggression”.
Pakistan also accused India of supporting militant groups operating from Afghan territory, but provided no evidence to back the claim. —IANS
