Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday directed district collectors to complete paddy procurement and maize purchases across the state in Mission Mode, making it clear that negligence or irregularities in the process would not be tolerated. The Chief Minister reviewed the ongoing procurement operations through a video conference with district collectors and senior officials at the CM Camp Office.

Revanth Reddy instructed officials to ensure that farmers do not face inconvenience at procurement centres and stressed that payments should be made without delay. He directed collectors to personally supervise procurement operations at the field level and ensure transparency and accountability in every stage of the process.

The Chief Minister ordered officials to ensure adequate availability of gunny bags, hamalis and transport vehicles at procurement centres. He instructed that procured grain should be shifted immediately to warehouses to avoid delays and congestion. Contractors failing to provide sufficient lorries for transportation should not be spared and criminal cases may be filed against them if necessary, he warned. The Transport Department Commissioner was directed to ensure uninterrupted vehicle availability for grain transportation.

Highlighting storage related concerns, the Chief Minister advised collectors to make temporary arrangements wherever warehouse space was inadequate. He suggested using Rythu Bazaars, function halls and other available spaces for temporary storage before shifting grain to warehouses.

Collectors of maize producing districts were asked to remain alert and ensure farmers are protected from distress sales. Revanth Reddy also directed officials to seek police support wherever necessary to ensure smooth procurement operations.

He instructed collectors to regularly submit progress reports to the Chief Secretary.

To minimise losses caused by unseasonal rains, the Chief Minister ordered officials to provide tarpaulins to farmers and prepare long term plans to safeguard grain stocks. He also directed appointment of special officers at mandal level to alert farmers based on weather forecasts and ensure timely dissemination of weather advisories.

The Chief Minister instructed that responsible officers be deployed at every IKP centre and rice mill for monitoring procurement activities and preventing irregularities. He also suggested using tractors and locally available vehicles wherever there is a shortage of lorries. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Ministers Tummala Nageswara Rao, Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Seethakka, Jupally Krishna Rao, Adluri Laxman Kumar, Vakiti Srihari, Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, senior officials and district collectors participated in the review meeting.

Uttam Kumar Reddy stresses Responsibility

Minister for Civil Supplies Uttam Kumar Reddy said district collectors must act responsibly in handling paddy procurement and maize purchases. He assured that the government would provide all necessary assistance to resolve issues arising in districts and ensure smooth procurement operations.

Record Procurement under Telangana Government: Tummala

Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said Telangana was undertaking paddy procurement on a record scale under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. He stated that farmers from neighbouring states were also bringing grain to Telangana procurement centres, creating challenges in some districts, and directed collectors to remain vigilant and complete procurement by the end of the month.
