The Chaderghat Police on Thursday arrested a man in connection with a chain-snatching case and recovered a stolen gold chain weighing about 2.5 tolas. Police said the incident occurred on June 23 when Gattu Sitarama Rao (61) boarded a TSRTC Route No. 72J bus at Lalazar Cross Roads. Taking advantage of the crowded bus, a group of suspects allegedly surrounded and jostled him near the footboard before stealing his gold chain.
The victim discovered the theft after reaching Yashoda Hospital and lodged a complaint at Chaderghat Police Station. A case was registered under Crime No. 250/2026 under Section 305(c) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Using CCTV footage, police identified the accused as Kamble Ratan alias Ratan Badal (42), an auto-rickshaw driver from Mangar Basti, Mallepally. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to committing the crime along with three associates—Salman, Ismail and Ibrahim—who remain absconding.
Police recovered the stolen gold chain along with its pendant from the accused. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest the remaining suspects.
The case was cracked by the Chaderghat Police team led by Sub-Inspector B. Krishna Reddy under the guidance of Inspector K.B. Murari and Detective Inspector B. Srinivasa Rao. The investigation was supervised by senior officers of the Malakpet Division and Charminar Zone, with the Deputy Commissioner of Police commending the team for solving the case.
