Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday underlined Telangana’s growing prominence in the aerospace sector as he flagged off the flight hardware of Skyroot Aerospace’s Vikram-1 rocket at the GMR Aerospace Park in Shamshabad.

The Vikram-1 is India’s first privately developed orbital rocket and is set to travel to the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota for launch preparations. The mission is expected to mark India’s first private orbital launch attempt in the coming months.

Calling it a landmark moment, the Chief Minister said the event reflects Telangana’s ambition to emerge as a global aerospace leader. He noted that the rocket was fully designed and developed in Hyderabad, showcasing the city’s innovation and engineering capabilities.

Revanth Reddy congratulated Skyroot Aerospace for its rapid progress, recalling that the company launched its first rocket in 2022 and has now reached the orbital launch stage in a short period.

He highlighted Telangana’s strength in the aerospace ecosystem, noting the presence of major global companies such as Boeing, Airbus, and Safran in the state.

The Chief Minister said Telangana aims to become a global aerospace hub by 2047, with strong focus on exports, innovation, and manufacturing. He pointed out that the state recorded 117.9 percent growth in engineering exports between 2023–24 and 2024–25, the highest among Indian states, with aircraft parts and defence equipment leading the surge.

He also emphasized the importance of skilling youth to meet industry needs. The government is strengthening institutions such as Young India Skills University, Advanced Technology Centres, and Polytechnic colleges to create an industry-driven curriculum.

Skyroot Aerospace CEO Pawan Kumar Chandana welcomed collaboration with the state on talent development, calling skilling one of the industry’s biggest challenges.

The event marked another milestone in Telangana’s bid to position itself at the forefront of India’s private space and aerospace revolution.
