Chana prices ease, strong festival demand may support further gains

Chana prices eased in key spot markets on Monday after recent gains, but tightening supplies and buying ahead of the festival season are expected to keep the broader price trend firm. Tur and moong, meanwhile, remained largely steady.

In Indore, chana fell ₹50 to ₹6,550–₹6,600 per 100 kg, while Delhi prices declined by the same amount to ₹6,325–₹6,350. 

The decline was viewed as a modest correction following a sustained advance. Purchases by millers, wholesalers and retailers ahead of the festival season have supported chana over the past fortnight. Prices could rise by ₹500–₹600 per 100 kg between September and November as seasonal demand peaks. Lower arrivals and limited government buffer-stock sales are also expected to underpin prices. Tur held at ₹7,400–₹8,100 in Solapur, where arrivals remained thin, while Katni prices were unchanged at ₹8,300–₹8,400. 

Demand could strengthen with the start of Shravan in Maharashtra, when consumption of pulses typically increases. 

Lower tur acreage in the state could provide additional support. Moong remained at ₹6,300–₹6,700 in Jaipur amid subdued activity.  Higher sowing in Rajasthan is expected to offset lower acreage in Maharashtra, limiting significant upward pressure on prices.
