The Telangana Cabinet on Friday took several key decisions relating to housing, infrastructure, education, irrigation and industrial development, including approval for the second phase of the Indiramma housing scheme and a new Life Sciences Policy aimed at making the State a global investment hub.

The Cabinet approved the construction of 2.5 lakh Indiramma houses for poor families across Telangana. Under the decision, 2,000 houses will be sanctioned in each Assembly constituency as part of the second phase of the programme.

The Cabinet also resolved to complete unfinished Indiramma houses that were started during the Congress government in united Andhra Pradesh but remained stalled at various stages of construction. Financial assistance of Rs 3 lakh will be provided for houses where only the foundation work has been completed, while Rs 2 lakh assistance will be extended for houses where walls have been completed but roof slabs are pending.

The government decided to allocate funds for 500 such incomplete houses in every constituency.

The Cabinet further announced that house-warming ceremonies for nearly one lakh houses completed under the first phase of the Indiramma housing programme will be held by June 2. It also decided to inaugurate 28 newly constructed Indiramma houses for the Kolam Adivasi community at Kothari village in Kerameri mandal of Kumuram Bheem Asifabad district on June 1. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka and other ministers will participate in the programme.

In another major housing initiative, the Cabinet approved the construction and distribution of one lakh Low-Income Group (LIG) houses across the 24 Assembly constituencies within the Hyderabad metropolitan region.

Based on surveys conducted across Telangana, the government identified around 15,000 families still living in huts. The Cabinet decided to immediately sanction Indiramma houses to all such families with the stated objective of making Telangana a hut-free State.

The Cabinet also approved an allocation of Rs 1,000 crore for works related to the upcoming Godavari Pushkarams scheduled from June 26 to July 7 next year. Of the total amount, Rs 300 crore will be released immediately as the first instalment.

In the power sector, the Cabinet approved proposals by Telangana DISCOMs to join the Centre’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) aimed at strengthening power distribution infrastructure.

The Cabinet approved the extension of the Mid-Day Meal Scheme to all junior colleges in the State. Students in government junior colleges will now also be provided breakfast and milk in addition to meals already served in schools.

Administrative restructuring decisions were also taken, including the merger of District Cooperative Marketing Societies (DCMS) with MARKFED and the merger of Telangana Rural Infrastructure Corporation (TGRIC) with HACA.

The Cabinet further approved Rs 587 crore towards land acquisition, rehabilitation and infrastructure development for the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme.

A major focus of the Cabinet meeting was the approval of the ‘Next Generation Life Sciences Policy 2026–30’. The government said the policy aims to position Telangana among the world’s top five Life Sciences hubs by 2030.

Under the policy, the State aims to attract investments worth $25 billion and generate five lakh jobs over the next five years across the Life Sciences, Pharma, Biotech and Medical Innovation sectors. The policy will place greater emphasis on innovation and research while also recognising Research and Development units as industrial entities to encourage global investments and establish Telangana as a destination for Global Capability and Innovation Centres.
