Amgen, the largest biotechnology company in the U.S., has announced an investment of Rs 1,600 crore ($200 million) in Hyderabad by the end of 2025. This move reinforces Amgen’s long-term commitment to India’s biotechnology sector. As part of its expansion, the company inaugurated a state-of-the-art Technology & Innovation Site in Hyderabad, further solidifying the city’s position as a global biotech hub.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and IT & Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu launched the new facility at Amgen’s campus near Hitech city on Monday. Speaking at the event, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said, “Hyderabad has further strengthened its position as a global city and a biotech hub with the expansion of Amgen's operations.” He highlighted the Telangana government’s support in fostering a world-class ecosystem for innovation and investment in life sciences.
“Telangana is already a leader in the field of life sciences, pharma and bio-tech sectors. The state is taking steps towards achieving a trillion dollar GDP. The people’s government is working with the determination of transforming Hyderabad one of the great cities in the world and as a China plus One destination,” CM said. Addressing the event, IT & Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu underscored Telangana’s vision to transform Hyderabad into a global life sciences capital. He emphasized that Amgen’s presence would create new opportunities for research, innovation, and employment in the biotech sector.
The arrival of world-leading companies like Amgen brings new opportunities. The Telangana government continues to support the growth of life sciences, pharma, and biotech industries, fostering partnerships between global companies, universities, and startups, Minister noted.
Amgen operates in nearly 100 countries with a workforce of 28,000 and has been a pioneer in biotech-driven pharmaceutical development for over four decades. Its Hyderabad expansion marks a significant milestone in its efforts to leverage technology for improved healthcare solutions and further strengthen its global network.
