Hyderabad police arrested 11 individuals on Tuesday, for their involvement in an interstate infant-selling racket.

The accused were illegally procuring and selling newborns, with prices ranging from Rs 2-5 lakhs per child. The Special Operations Team (SOT) of Malkajgiri, in coordination with Chaitanyapuri police under Rachakonda Commissionerate, also rescued four infants, two baby girls and two baby boys, during the operation. Police seized 11 mobile phones and Rs 5,000 in cash, with the total worth of seized items estimated at Rs 95,000.

The investigation identified Kola Krishnaveni and Battu Deepthi as the key suspects, who sourced infants from Vandana, a resident of Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The babies were transported to Hyderabad with the help of Sunitha Suman and Savitri Devi and sold to families in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana through intermediaries.

Acting on a tip-off, authorities apprehended the suspects at Chaitanyapuri bus stop. During questioning, they admitted to their role in the illegal trade. Further searches led police to Battu Deepthi’s residence, where three more infants were found. Rachakonda Police Commissioner G Sudheer Babu, along with senior officials, supervised the operation.
