The Warangal Task Force and Narsampet Police have jointly arrested eight persons involved in printing and circulating fake currency notes as well as running a large-scale cheating racket across Telangana. According to police, three of the accused were printing counterfeit notes, while the other five were allegedly cheating people by promising to convert lesser amounts into higher denominations using a chemical trick.

East Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ankit Kumar, while addressing the media, said that during interrogation, the three accused confessed to printing fake Rs 100 notes using laptops and color printers and circulating them in the market. The remaining five accused were running a different modus operandi. They would approach people promising to multiply their money in the ratio of 1:3. To gain their trust, they would dip genuine Rs 500 notes in iodine tincture solution, turning them black.

They would then show the victims black-coloured paper bundles, claiming that dipping them in ‘Hypo’ (Sodium Thiosulfate) solution would turn them back into genuine currency notes.
