The Andhra Pradesh Medical Council (APMC) must strictly adhere to the National Medical Council (NMC) guidelines regarding doctors' registration and renewals, stated State Health, Family Welfare, and Medical Education Minister Satyakumar Yadav. Addressing the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed APMC members at NTR Health University on Tuesday, the minister emphasized the importance of ethical medical practices and urged doctors to follow the oath they took upon entering the noble profession.

Minister Yadav administered the oath to newly appointed APMC members, including Dr. G. Sujatha, Dr. K. Venkata Subbanaidu, Dr. D. Srihari, Dr. Swarna Geetha, Dr. S. Keshavarao Babu, and Dr. C. Malleshwari. Speaking on the occasion, he stressed that doctors must renew their certifications every five years as mandated by the council. This, he said, would improve oversight and accountability within the medical profession.

While acknowledging challenges faced by doctors practicing abroad, Yadav assured that necessary steps would be taken to resolve such issues promptly. He also highlighted concerns regarding overprescription of antibiotics and unnecessary diagnostic tests that burden patients financially. The minister urged the medical fraternity to counter the growing perception of commercialization in healthcare and uphold the ethics of their profession.

Expressing concern over the rising number of cesarean operations, Yadav called for prioritizing normal deliveries wherever possible, leveraging modern medical advancements to ensure safer childbirth practices. He pointed out that both doctors and patients need to move away from the mindset that excessive tests and prescriptions indicate better medical care.

The minister also announced that the APMC consists of 23 members, including four ex-officio members and 13 elected representatives, with upcoming elections to determine the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson. Congratulating the newly appointed members, including Dr. Gogineni Sujatha, Dr. Kalvakollu Venkata Subbanaidu, Dr. Duggamati Srihari Rao, Dr. Swarna Geetha, Dr. S. Keshavarao Babu, and Dr. Chunduri Malleshwari, Yadav extended his best wishes for their tenure.

The event was attended by in-charge Vice Chancellor D.S.V.L. Narasimham, APMC Registrar Ramesh Reddy, NTR Health University Registrar Radhika Reddy, faculty members, and other dignitaries.
