■ The Zone achieved Originating Freight Loading of 144.140 MTs, which is the best-ever since its inception
■ The Zone also registers its highest ever freight revenue of Rs. 13,825 Crs, the best ever in its history

South Central Railway registers it’s best-ever performance in freight business during the last financial year 2024-25 by surpassing the previous best figures registered in 2023-24. The Zone registered 144.140 Million Tonnes freight loading which is 2% higher than the previous best freight loading i.e., 141.120 MTs registered during the financial year 2023-24. Similarly, in terms of freight revenue, the Zone registered Rs 13, 825 Crores, which is also 2% higher than the previous best freight revenue of Rs 13,620 Crores registered during 2023-24.
The record-breaking performance by the Zone was a result of the exceptional team work by the SCR’s workforce and effective coordination between all the departments. The Zone has been giving a major thrust towards attracting new streams of freight business, while strengthening its existing freight basket. Special focus was given towards enhancing the infrastructure, work atmosphere at Freight terminals, improvements to Goods Sheds, etc. Simultaneously, regular communication is being maintained by the SCR officials with the freight customers so as to address the requirements of the freight customers within stipulated time.
The buoyancy in the Zone’s loading was witnessed across all commodity streams during the year 2024-25. The approximate freight loading of the different commodities transported by the Zone is as follows - Coal, the major commodity in the Zones freight basket, contributed 70.147 MTs of loading (vs 70.510 MTs in FY 23-24).
Cement (along with Clinker) is the second largest commodity contributing 37.604 MTs in loading (vs 36.47 MTs in FY 23-24). The freight loading of other major commodities that contributed for the best ever loading include: Fertilisers (7.343 MTs vs 7.400 MTs), Foodgrains (6.658 MTs vs 7.390 MTs), Raw Material for Steel Plants (5.081 MTs vs 4.630 MTs), Iron Ore (5.892 MTs vs 3.750 MTs), Containers (2.547 MTs vs 2.390 MTs), POL (1.23 MTs vs 1.100 MTs) and other goods (7.638 MTs vs 7.48 MTs).
Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager, SCR has appreciated the efforts of the Operations and Commercial team on this stupendous achievement and advised them to maintain the same tempo in the current financial year. SCR achieving its best-ever freight performance by record-breaking loading and earnings, underscores the Zone’s commitment to excellence and the special thrust given towards driving growth in this crucial segment, he added.
