In a student-friendly reform, the Andhra Pradesh government has expanded the scope of improvement examinations for Intermediate students. The Board of Intermediate Education has decided to extend the improvement facility, previously available only to first-year students, to second-year students as well. The revised rules will come into effect from the Intermediate Public Advanced Supplementary Examinations scheduled in May 2026.

The updated guidelines, issued from the Board’s office in Tadepalli, state that students who appeared for the March 2026 Intermediate examinations, whether they passed or failed, will now be eligible to reappear for improvement in subjects they have already cleared. This move is aimed at helping students enhance their academic scores and improve future prospects in higher education and competitive admissions.

According to officials, the best score obtained between the annual examination and the improvement attempt will be considered final. This flexibility, already in place for first-year students, has now been extended to second-year candidates to ensure parity and greater academic opportunity.

However, the Board has clarified that no improvement option will be available for practical examinations. Students who have failed in any subject can continue to attempt those papers multiple times until they secure a pass, as per existing rules.

Regarding fees, candidates will have to pay Rs 160 per subject for improvement. In addition, the standard examination fee applies, Rs 600 for one year or Rs 1,200 for both years combined. Students are required to use their March 2026 examination registration number while applying for these supplementary and improvement exams.

The Board has also specified the payment window for fees, which will be open from April 20 to April 27, 2026. Secretary of the Board, P. Ranjit Basha, IAS, confirmed that all arrangements are being made to ensure a smooth application and examination process.

Students have welcomed the decision, noting that it provides a crucial second chance for them to strengthen their academic performance without losing a full academic year. The reform is expected to reduce stress among students while promoting a more flexible and supportive examination system in the state.
