ANU, Indosol Solar join hands to advance TOPCon technology

The Australian National University (ANU) and Indosol Solar Private Limited have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and collaboration agreement to accelerate the development and commercialisation of next-generation Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) silicon solar cell technologies.

The partnership, facilitated by the India-Australia Technology Commercialisation Challenge (TCC) Pilot Programme, brings together ANU’s photovoltaic research expertise and Indosol Solar’s giga-scale manufacturing capabilities in Andhra Pradesh.

Under the agreement, the two organisations will jointly develop advanced N-type TOPCon solar cell architectures aimed at improving conversion efficiency, resistance to light- and UV-induced degradation, and reducing the levelised cost of electricity. ANU researchers will work with Indosol’s process teams to optimise manufacturing processes and accelerate the transfer of laboratory innovations to commercial production.

The advanced cell designs will be validated on Indosol’s integrated manufacturing lines in India. The collaboration will also facilitate researcher exchanges, joint research and technical capability building. The partnership is expected to strengthen India-Australia clean-energy technology ties and support the development of high-efficiency solar products for domestic and international markets.

Dr Rabin Basnet and Dr Marco Ernst, lead photovoltaic researchers at ANU, said the collaboration would help translate solar innovations into gigawatt-scale production. Indosol Solar said the partnership would support its efforts to build a world-class integrated solar manufacturing ecosystem in India.
