Amaravati Quantum Valley achieves major milestone

Amaravati Quantum Valley (AQV) has achieved a significant breakthrough in India’s quantum technology ambitions, with its indigenous Dilution Refrigerator successfully reaching a temperature of 4 Kelvin (-269°C) at the Quantum Reference Facility housed in Medha Towers, Amaravati.

The achievement marks a crucial step toward building a fully indigenous quantum technology ecosystem and strengthens India’s efforts to become self-reliant in advanced frontier technologies under the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. It also reinforces Andhra Pradesh’s emerging position as a hub for cutting-edge scientific innovation.

As part of this mission, Amaravati Quantum Valley partnered with Qbit Force and Qubitech to identify domestic manufacturing opportunities in critical quantum hardware technologies, particularly cryogenic systems. These efforts culminated in the establishment of India’s first Quantum Reference Facilities at Medha Towers, Amaravati, and SRM University-AP in April 2026.

The facility serves as a national platform for testing, validation and integration of quantum technologies. It enables researchers, startups, academic institutions and industry partners to evaluate critical components, including cryogenic systems, vacuum engineering solutions, control electronics and quantum processors.

Reaching 4 Kelvin is a major technological milestone, as it allows testing and characterization of superconducting devices, quantum sensors, cryogenic electronics, microwave systems, quantum communication components and advanced materials. These technologies form the foundation of future quantum computers, secure communication networks and next-generation scientific applications.

Officials said the refrigeration system will now continue cooling toward ultra-low millikelvin temperatures required for advanced superconducting quantum computing. Once achieved, the facility will support quantum processor development and accelerate India’s quantum hardware capabilities.
