The Andhra Pradesh government has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating the development of Amaravati as the state's capital city, with Urban Development Minister Ponguru Narayana announcing that the iconic buildings in the project will be fully completed by December 2028. During a visit to the villages of Anantavaram and Nekkallu in the Amaravati region on Saturday, Minister Narayana interacted with local residents, listened to their concerns and suggestions and provided detailed updates on the ongoing infrastructure works.
Accompanied by local MLA Sravan Kumar and officials from the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA), the minister emphasized the government's focus on delivering world-class facilities to the gram panchayats and surrounding areas. Minister Narayana assured villagers that essential infrastructure—including underground drainage systems, street lighting, and cement roads—would be installed in their villages within six months of the commencement of work.
He highlighted the scale of the current construction efforts, noting that approximately 30,000 workers are actively engaged across the capital city project. The minister provided specific timelines for key components of the development. Residences designated for officials, Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), and Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) are slated for completion by June of this year.
Looking further ahead, he stated that by June 2027, the capital region will feature 360 kilometers of trunk roads and 1,500 kilometers of layout roads fully completed. The centerpiece of the announcement was the commitment regarding Amaravati's iconic buildings. Minister Narayana firmly stated that these signature buildings would be finished by December 2028, aligning with government targets for establishing Amaravati as a modern, functional capital.
