21-03-2026 12:00:00 AM

The Telangana Forest Development Corporation conducted a programme at the Botanical Garden, Hyderabad, to mark World Sparrow Day. The event was organised under the aegis of the Telangana Forest Development Corporation.

Around 30 walkers and visitors attended the programme. Speaking on the importance of sparrows, Senior Divisional Manager and Assistant Director (Eco-Tourism) K. Sireesha said that sparrows, though small in size, play a significant role in maintaining ecological balance. She explained that they help control insect populations by feeding on various pests and contribute to pollination and seed dispersal. Their presence enhances biodiversity and is essential for the health of both rural and urban ecosystems.

As part of the activities, participants prepared sparrow nests, took selfies with them, and carried them home. With the onset of summer, clay water pots were also distributed to help provide drinking water for birds. These pots were filled with water and placed in shaded areas across the Botanical Garden. Children and adults actively participated in the initiative.

The programme was attended by Senior Divisional Manager and Assistant Director (Eco-Tourism) K. Sireesha, Plantation Manager Lakshmareddy, Range Officer Srinivas Rao, Projects Manager Suman, D.R.O. Srinivas Reddy, Naturalist Samson Raju, Walkers Secretary Balakrishna, along with walkers and others.
