500 arrested for Palestine protest

Over 500 people were arrested during a protest against the ban on Palestine Action in London, police said. It made the arrests when people showed support for a proscribed organisation. The age of those arrested ranged from 18 to 87. Hundreds gathered in Trafalgar Square, with many carrying signs in support of the group reading “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action”. Saturday’s protest, named Everyone Day, had been called by Defend our Juries, who said the event would demonstrate the “unwaning resistance to the ban on Palestine Action”.

Rubio revokes green cards

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has terminated the lawful permanent resident status of three Iranian nationals with alleged ties to figures associated with Iran’s revolutionary regime, leading to their arrest and detention pending removal, State Dept said. Seyed Eissa Hashemi, Maryam Tahmasebi and their son were taken into custody by ICE when their legal status was revoked. Authorities said they were awaiting deportation proceedings.

Hashemi is the son of Masoumeh Ebtekar, a controversial figure linked to the 1979 takeover of the US Embassy in Tehran. Ebtekar served as a spokeswoman for the militants involved in the hostage crisis, during which 52 Americans were held for 444 days. Ebtekar acted as a “leading propagandist” for the hostage-takers, arranging staged media interactions and portraying as a ‘misleading image of the hostages’ treatment’.
