Hyderabad City Police seized 2,149 vehicles after inspecting 12,098 vehicles during a citywide special drive, “Operation Kavach,” conducted on Thursday night to curb number plate tampering and strengthen public safety. The operation was carried out between 10 pm and midnight across key locations in the city.

The drive focused on vehicles displaying altered, fake, missing, or unclear registration plates. During the inspections, police checked 8,802 two-wheelers, 1,693 four-wheelers, and 1,623 autorickshaws. Officials identified 1,406 vehicles with irregular number plates, 1,132 vehicles without number plates, and 69 vehicles using fake registration numbers.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar visited several checking points, including Jubilee Hills, Madhura Nagar, Borabanda, Sanath Nagar, and Ameerpet, to personally monitor the enforcement drive. He interacted with motorists, examined number plates, and instructed officers to take strict action against deliberate violations.

Speaking on the occasion, Sajjanar said number plate tampering is a serious threat to public safety and is often used by criminals to evade detection. He warned that offenders could face cheating and forgery charges and urged motorists to maintain proper number plates and carry valid vehicle documents.
