India’s rapidly growing economy and vast infrastructure requirements are opening up significant opportunities for deeper collaboration with the United States, US Ambassador Sergio Gor has said, stressing that both nations are well-positioned for a “win-win” expansion of their strategic and economic partnership.
In an interview to a US embassy publication, Gor highlighted that American expertise in sectors such as energy, aviation, advanced manufacturing and digital infrastructure aligns closely with India’s development priorities. He said enhanced trade and investment flows between the two countries could transform their long-term economic engagement while delivering mutual benefits.
The envoy underlined that both sides are prioritising the creation of resilient supply chains, particularly in critical sectors such as semiconductors, pharmaceuticals and key minerals. He welcomed India’s participation in the US-led ‘Pax Silica’ initiative, which focuses on securing global supply networks amid intensifying competition, especially from China. According to him, the initiative will strengthen cooperation in areas like critical mineral processing and artificial intelligence infrastructure while aligning economic and national security interests.
Gor also referred to the US-India COMPACT framework—launched following discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump last year—as a key mechanism to boost cooperation across defence, commerce and technology. He said the initiative aims to catalyse transformative progress across multiple pillars of the bilateral relationship.
Describing defence ties as the “most strategically significant” aspect of the partnership, the ambassador noted that India is a major defence partner of the US. He pointed to growing military interoperability through joint exercises such as Malabar, Tiger Triumph and Cope India. He also highlighted the role of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, comprising India, the US, Japan and Australia, in strengthening regional security coordination.
According to Gor, sustained engagement through diplomacy, defence exercises and military sales forms the backbone of strong bilateral defence cooperation. Maintaining momentum in these areas, he said, would naturally lead to further strengthening of ties.
On the regional front, the envoy stated that the US is uniquely positioned to act as a facilitator of economic growth across South and Central Asia. He cited growing investment engagements with countries such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in sectors like energy, digital infrastructure and critical minerals.
In South Asia, Gor said a proposed trade agreement with India could serve as a powerful anchor for broader regional economic integration, boosting connectivity and commerce.
He added that the partnership is ultimately aimed at delivering tangible benefits to ordinary citizens, including increased market access for American farmers, joint research breakthroughs in energy and healthcare, and enhanced military cooperation to ensure a secure Indo-Pacific region. He emphasised that shared democratic values, mutual prosperity and common security interests will continue to shape the US-India relationship for decades ahead.
