In a deeply troubling practice, orphaned or unclaimed bodies in Mahabubnagar district are reportedly being transported to dumping yards without undergoing proper cremation or burial, raising serious concerns over human dignity and administrative responsibility. Despite the presence of the district general hospital, authorities are allegedly moving unclaimed deceased directly from the post-mortem room to municipal waste collection vehicles and disposing of them at dumping sites.

Locals report that district authorities are expected to ensure that unclaimed bodies receive last rites according to the deceased’s religious customs. However, this legal and ethical requirement is reportedly being ignored. Orphaned individuals who die in the district are treated as refuse, with no attempt to contact religious authorities or relatives. Citizens claim that such negligence has persisted for years, with authorities showing little concern or accountability.

Residents and observers expressed shock at the apparent disregard for human life and traditions. While animals that die are accorded ritualistic cremation or burial, unclaimed human bodies are reportedly being wrapped in plastic and transported like waste to dumping yards. Religious leaders emphasize that performing last rites brings peace to the departed soul, irrespective of religion—a practice being neglected in these cases.

Officials are legally obligated to carry out cremation or burial rituals for unclaimed bodies, ensuring respect and dignity even in the absence of relatives. The ongoing practice of moving bodies directly from post-mortem rooms to waste vehicles violates both ethical norms and administrative regulations.

Residents have urged district authorities to immediately adhere to proper procedures for orphaned bodies, ensuring each receives dignified treatment according to relevant religious customs. Attempts to contact the superintendent of Mahabubnagar District General Hospital, Ranga Azmeera, for comment were unsuccessful. Citizens stress that corrective measures must be taken without delay to prevent further violations and to uphold basic human dignity for unclaimed deceased individuals.
