Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Shri Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati ‘1008’, the Paramadhish of Uttaramnaya Jyotishpeeth has received a deadly threat on Thursday, the response to which from the Varanasi police has so far been disappointing and sluggish. As per Sanjay Pandey, the media in-charge of Jagadguru Shankaracharya Ji Maharaj, a written complaint regarding the death threat was submitted at the Bhelupur police station by Paramatmanand Ji, the official representative of Shankaracharya Ji Maharaj. However, even after more than 24 hours have passed, the police have still not registered a First Information Report (FIR).

A threat to a revered personality like Jagadguru Shankaracharya raises serious questions about the effectiveness of the administration. Legal experts and devotees point out that the Supreme Court of India has issued clear that in cognizable offences, the police must register an FIR without any delay. Despite these binding guidelines, the Bhelupur police’s inaction has drawn sharp criticism

Speaking on the matter, Paramatmanand Ji stated that if the administration does not immediately ensure strict action against the culprits, then the devotees will have no option but approaching the court to protect the cause of justice.
