Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education and Information Technology Nara Lokesh has directed officials to expedite preparations for the implementation of the flagship ‘Thalliki Vandanam’ scheme, which will provide financial assistance to mothers of students studying in government and private schools. The scheme is expected to be launched in the third week of July after Aadhaar verification of beneficiaries is completed.

Reviewing School and Higher Education initiatives at his Undavalli residence, Lokesh assessed the progress of Thalliki Vandanam, Badi Pilustondi, Shining Stars, Mega Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTM), Yogandhra, and Teacher Eligibility Tests (TET). Officials said beneficiary verification is progressing rapidly.

Lokesh also directed officials to boost enrollment in government schools by improving educational standards, infrastructure, and outreach. The ‘Shining Stars’ programme to honour meritorious students will be held on June 29, while a statewide Mega PTM is planned for July. Discussions were also held on redeploying surplus teachers.

In the Higher Education review, Lokesh ordered timely notifications for EAPCET, POLYCET, and ECET and stressed coordination with national entrance examinations. He also reviewed admissions for 1.88 lakh engineering seats, plans to expand government college capacity, proposals from leading universities, and the establishment of the GMR Mansas Aviation University. He welcomed the Centre’s approval for a dedicated NCC Directorate for Andhra Pradesh.
