Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati’s Avatara Day on Aug 14

The 57th Avatara Day of Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Shri Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, the Shankaracharya of Jyotish Peeth, will be celebrated  in Varanasi on Friday, August 14. According to Sanjay Pandey, media in-charge of the Shankaracharya, devotees and saints in Varanasi, Chhattisgarh, Jyotirmath and several other parts of India and abroad will organize a variety of religious ceremonies to mark the occasion. In Varanasi, the main celebrations will be held at Shri Vidya Math at Shankaracharya Ghat.

The program will begin with a Rudrabhishek performed by Vedic scholars. The rituals will be followed by worship of the Shankaracharya’s charan paduka (sacred footwear), floral tributes to his portrait and Vedic recitations. Bhajans, kirtans and traditional celebratory songs are scheduled to continue throughout the day. The 57th Avatara Day celebrations are expected to bring together devotees and saints in large numbers, with religious ceremonies and devotional programs planned both in Varanasi and at other centers associated with the Shankaracharya.
