A two-day national Workshop on ‘Strengthening Academia-Industry linkage in Fisheries Sector’ was inaugurated at NAARM on March 16, 2026.Speaking on the occasion, Dr B.K. Behera, Chief Executive, National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad, who was also the Chief Guest of the Workshop informed that many central government schemes are available for funding to promote fishery sector related entrepreneurship.
He urged students to grab the opportunity and stand on their own besides creating employment for others. Panel discussions included Academia-Industry Convergence; Student-Industry Convergence; Fisheries Extension, Economics and Statistics and Fisheries Resources and Management, aquaculture, Aquatic animal health management, etc. The guest of honor Dr P.E. Vijay Anand, Senior Lead, Soy Excellence Centers and India Lead, said fisheries curriculum need to be updated in terms of business knowledge and skilling.
Dr K.R. Sreenath, Director General, Fishery Survey of India, Mumbai, who was another guest of honor on the occasion, said sea changes in standards, certifications, and production technologies in near future for fisheries sector in the country. A publication titled “Workshop Manual on Fisheries Science Curriculum in India” was launched on the occasion.
