Bollywood star Salman Khan and director Apoorva Lakhia’s film was initially titled Battle of Galwan, based on the 2020 India-China conflict. However, a few weeks ago, the makers announced that the film has been retitled Maatrubhumi. Originally slated for release on April 17, 2026, the film has now been postponed. According to reports, it is undergoing major changes, with nearly 40 per cent of the film being reshot.

As per a report by Bollywood Hungama, the Ministry of Defence has expressed reservations about the film’s content, especially in light of improving relations between India and China.

A source told the portal, “Earlier, the film was inspired by a real event. But as per the request of the Ministry of Defence, Salman Khan and director Apoorva Lakhia reshot the film, adding a fictional spin. Nearly 40 per cent of the film was reshot, including romantic scenes and backstory elements. The makers submitted the new cut, hoping to receive a No Objection Certificate, but the Ministry still has concerns.” The source further added, “One of the requests to Salman Khan was that China should not be mentioned in the film. This was communicated in advance. The latest cut of Maatrubhumi, submitted earlier this month, does not include any reference to China.” So far, neither Salman Khan nor Apoorva Lakhia has officially confirmed these reports.

Maatrubhumi, which also stars Chitrangda Singh in the lead role, was slated to release on April 17, 2026, but it has been postponed. There were reports that the film might hit the big screens in May, but there's no official announcement about it.
