The political exchange between Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has intensified during the ongoing election campaign in Kerala, with both leaders trading sharp allegations over governance, development, and political conduct.

Campaigning in Kerala, Revanth Reddy alleged a tacit understanding between Vijayan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He questioned why central agencies had acted against several opposition leaders but not against Vijayan, suggesting political shielding. Referring to a letter highlighting governance between 2014 and 2023, Revanth argued that similar claims in Telangana had failed to convince voters, leading to electoral defeat, and predicted a comparable outcome in Kerala.

He also raised concerns over unemployment, noting that many educated youth from Kerala migrate abroad due to limited opportunities. Positioning Telangana as a model, he highlighted initiatives such as job creation, welfare schemes, and infrastructure development, inviting Kerala leaders to review these programmes.

Responding strongly, Vijayan rejected the allegations and called for dignity in political discourse. He defended Kerala’s development record, citing the historical role of Left governments in land reforms, decentralisation, and social progress. He pointed to achievements in healthcare, education, and digital learning, including upgraded health centres and hi-tech classrooms, as evidence of sustained progress.

On governance indicators, Vijayan asserted that Kerala ranks highly on national indices, including the Sustainable Development Goals and ease of doing business, while also pursuing a knowledge-driven economy through its IT policy and startup ecosystem. He further highlighted the state’s efforts to safeguard federal principles through legal challenges against the Centre.

In a subsequent response, Revanth Reddy reiterated his criticism, questioning Kerala’s claims on poverty eradication and corruption-free governance. He cited economic indicators to underline Telangana’s growth, including rising GSDP and per capita income, and challenged the accuracy of Kerala’s reported achievements.

As the exchange sharpens, both leaders have framed their arguments around contrasting models of governance, leaving the electorate in Kerala to assess the competing claims.
