Remembering Kondapalli Seshagiri Rao, pioneer of aqua texture paintings

The ‘Reviving the Roots’ art exhibition, commemorating the centenary of eminent artist Dr. Kondapalli Seshagiri Rao, was inaugurated by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma at the State Art Gallery in Madhapur. The exhibition, showcasing 290 paintings, will be open to the public from January 25 to February 5, 2025.

Born on January 27, 1924, in Penugonda village, Seshagiri Rao was a pioneer of aqua texture paintings in India, a style popular in China and Japan. Throughout his career, he created over 1,000 masterpieces, including oil paintings, wall murals, and aqua texture paintings. His works, inspired by various facets of rural Telangana, cover a wide range of subjects from mythological stories to daily life.

Seshagiri Rao's paintings are displayed in prominent locations worldwide, including the Salarjung Museum in Hyderabad, the Indian embassy in Washington DC, and Sri Venkateswara Temple in Pittsburgh, USA. He received several prestigious awards, including the Hamsa award, for his contributions to art.
