metro india news  I hyderabad : Telangana Irrigation, Food and Civil Supplies Minister and senior Congress leader N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said on Wednesday that Rahul Gandhi’s protest against the Election Commission reflects a larger democratic principle that citizens and their elected representatives must be able to ask questions of institutions that serve the public.

“The images of Rahul Gandhi being stopped and taken away by the police after he sought answers from the Election Commission have reached people across the country,” Uttam Kumar Reddy said and added that his determination has strengthened public attention on the serious questions surrounding voter-list revisions and the fairness of our electoral process.

Uttam Kumar Reddy recalled that Rahul Gandhi’s record showed the importance of raising difficult questions early. In 2016, he sharply criticised demonetisation and warned of the harm it could cause to small businesses and ordinary people. In March 2020, before the full economic consequences of COVID-19 became clear, he urged the government to prepare for a severe economic shock. During the Ladakh confrontation, he repeatedly sought clarity from the government on the situation at the border. These warnings and questions were often dismissed at the time, Uttam Kumar Reddy said, but later became central to national debate.

Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy mentioned that leadership is not only about responding after a crisis has unfolded but it is also about recognising risks early, speaking plainly and insisting that those in authority take responsibility.  Uttam Kumar Reddy said the police action had not weakened Rahul Gandhi’s resolve or silenced the issue. Instead, it had brought greater public focus to the demand for transparency. He urged the Election Commission to address the opposition’s concerns through a credible, open process and reaffirmed that protecting the integrity of every vote is essential to protecting Indian democracy.
