‘Rahul Gandhi should conduct ‘Chhatron ki Goonj’ in Hyd’

Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Tuesday said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi should conduct his "Chhatron ki Goonj" event in Hyderabad over the Congress-led state government's pending dues related to a tuition fees reimbursement scheme and the promise of two lakh jobs.

He also alleged that Rahul Gandhi is "running away from parliament" though Union Home Minister Amit Shah is ready to answer to the debate in parliament on Jantar Mantar protest by students.

"I am asking Rahul Gandhi. You conduct your Chhatron ki Goonj (voice of students) in Ashok Nagar (in Hyderabad). Because, you promised job calendar and two lakh jobs. Where is your job calendar, jobs and fees reimbursement," Rao told reporters here, in an apparent reference to Gandhi embarking on the student outreach over issues including paper leaks.

Rahul, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, had visited Ashok Nagar here, the hub of coaching centres, before the 2023 Telangana assembly elections and interacted with students preparing for competitive exams.

According to Rao, the promise of filling up two lakh government jobs remained unfulfilled though the Congress government completed two and a half years in office.

He alleged that certificates of students are being withheld by educational institutions because of the "Rs 12,000 crore dues" kept pending by the government.

The BJP leader said Congress first wanted resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan which was accepted. Rahul Gandhi then sought a statement by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Centre is ready for it. Still, Rahul Gandhi is not allowing the parliament to function, Rao alleged.

Gandhi is trying to avoid parliament because he will be "exposed," he said.

Condemning alleged high-handed attitude of police towards protesting students in Jharkhand, the BJP leader said Congress and other "INDI alliance" parties are only trying to do politics at the cost of students' future.
