Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday virtually inaugurated the redeveloped Mangalagiri Railway Station in Andhra Pradesh, modernised at a cost of Rs 12.56 crore under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
The inauguration was attended by Union Minister of State Pemmasani Chandrasekhar and Andhra Pradesh IT and Education Minister Nara Lokesh. The upgraded station, under the Guntur Railway Division, now features a redesigned entrance, modern waiting halls, improved passenger circulation areas and enhanced accessibility, including barrier-free facilities for persons with disabilities.
Railway officials said the redevelopment focuses on passenger comfort, safety and operational efficiency while preserving the station's local identity.
The Mangalagiri project is part of the Centre's Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which aims to transform railway stations into modern transport hubs reflecting regional heritage. As part of the programme, the Prime Minister dedicated 75 redeveloped railway stations across the country, built at a cost of Rs 1,570 crore, under the theme "Virasat Bhi, Vikas Bhi." Modi also launched and laid the foundation stone for infrastructure projects worth over Rs 5,470 crore nationwide, including railway and national highway projects, aimed at improving connectivity, boosting economic growth and strengthening transport infrastructure.
