Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan successfully underwent major shoulder surgery in Mumbai on Saturday to treat a severe rotator cuff injury in his right shoulder. The procedure, performed by a team led by renowned orthopedic and sports medicine specialist Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, lasted nearly three-and-a-half hours and was declared successful.

Doctors revealed that Pawan Kalyan has serious rotator cuff injuries in both shoulders, along with an avulsion fracture in the right shoulder, making extensive surgery necessary. Since operating on both shoulders simultaneously would have caused severe post-operative pain and recovery challenges, doctors decided to perform surgery on the right shoulder first. A second surgery on the left shoulder is expected after about two months.

According to the medical team, the injuries date back to 2016, when Pawan Kalyan first suffered shoulder damage. Despite medical advice to take adequate rest, he continued attending public meetings and political programs. The injuries reportedly worsened over the years during the Jana Sena chief’s statewide tours, election campaigns and public interactions, as enthusiastic supporters frequently pulled his hands while greeting or embracing him.

Medical examinations conducted earlier this year, during treatment for a separate nasal procedure, revealed extensive muscle tears and severe rotator cuff damage in both shoulders. Doctors reportedly expressed surprise that he had continued performing official duties despite the extent of the injuries and advised immediate surgery. However, Pawan Kalyan chose to complete his scheduled government responsibilities before undergoing the procedure.

Following the operation, he was shifted to the recovery room and is currently under close medical observation as he recovers from the effects of anesthesia. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu wished the Deputy Chief Minister a speedy and complete recovery, posting on social media that he hoped Pawan Kalyan would return to full health soon.
