Former Minister Harish Rao has voiced serious concerns regarding the Supreme Court's ruling that nullifies the local reservation quota for PG medical seats, stating that this decision poses a significant risk of detriment to students from Telangana. He expressed that this ruling could potentially lead to a shortage of postgraduate medical professionals in the state.

Harish Rao has called for the state government to approach the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court on behalf of the BRS Party. He urged Union Ministers and BJP MPs to exert pressure on the Central Government in this regard.

The Supreme Court's judgment stating that the 50% local reservation in PG medical seats is not applicable has severe implications not only for Telangana but also for students in other southern states. Telangana, known for its advanced medical colleges, risks losing opportunities for local students to pursue medical education due to this ruling.

Following the formation of the state, former Chief Minister KCR prioritized the development of medical education and established a medical college in every district, leading to a considerable increase in the number of government medical colleges from 5 to 34 by 2024.
