PCC Chief finds fault with Rajgopal Reddy’s statements

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud on Friday said Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy's public statements against the party and government were inappropriate and would be taken seriously. Speaking to the media during an informal interaction at Gandhi Bhavan, the PCC chief said the party leadership had taken note of Rajagopal Reddy's comments, particularly those that could damage the image of the Congress.

Mahesh Goud was responding to Rajagopal Reddy's recent remarks that people who had no connection with either the Telangana movement or the Congress were now enjoying positions of power in the government. He  said that everyone in the party, from the Chief Minister to an ordinary worker, was equal and entitled to the same respect. At the same time, Goud described Rajagopal Reddy as a good friend and said he understood the MLA's concerns. However, he said issues concerning the party should be discussed internally rather than being aired publicly.

Rajagopal Reddy's Discontent

Rajagopal Reddy's latest remarks have renewed debate within the Telangana Congress over growing differences among leaders. Over the past several months, disagreements and public criticism between party leaders in different constituencies have become increasingly visible. In some cases, the party leadership has responded by issuing show-cause notices and seeking explanations. Rajagopal Reddy has recently criticized senior party and government figures, including over the appointment of people he believes have no connection with the Congress to government positions.

Rajagopal Reddy has a complicated political history with the Congress. Although he was associated with the party from the beginning of his political career, he resigned as an MLA before the Assembly elections and joined the BJP. He contested the subsequent by-election on a BJP ticket but was defeated. He later returned to the Congress and won the Munugode Assembly seat in the 2023 elections.

According to Congress sources cited in the political discussion, Rajagopal Reddy had expected a ministerial berth after returning to the Congress, and similar expectations were reportedly raised during the Lok Sabha elections. Rajagopal Reddy has openly expressed his disappointment over the issue on several occasions. Some Congress circles have attributed the difficulty in accommodating him in the Cabinet to the presence of his brother, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, already serving as a minister.

While PCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud has indicated that the party is taking Rajagopal Reddy's statements seriously, questions remain within political circles over whether the Congress leadership will actually initiate disciplinary action against the Munugode MLA. The latest developments have therefore added another layer to the ongoing debate over internal discipline and leadership differences within the Telangana Congress.
