Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday announced that the Telangana government would deposit Rs 2,400 crore towards fee reimbursement directly into students’ bank accounts in advance from the current academic year.
He said Rs 250 crore had already been released for the payments and assured that eligible students who apply online would receive the reimbursement within a month. The new system aims to prevent colleges from withholding certificates over delays in fee reimbursement.
Addressing a public meeting in Hyderabad after unveiling the statues of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule, Revanth Reddy also announced plans to introduce skill-based education from nursery to Class 12 alongside regular academics.
He stressed that certificates alone were no longer sufficient and that students needed technical skills to compete for jobs. He cited the availability of nearly two lakh nursing jobs in Germany and Japan.
The Chief Minister said Advanced Technical Centres (ATCs) had been established in 119 constituencies in collaboration with the Tata Group in 2024. Students enrolled in the centres receive a monthly stipend of Rs 2,000 while acquiring technical skills alongside formal education.
Revanth Reddy said 60 per cent of those selected in Group-1 recruitment belonged to the Backward Classes (BCs). He also highlighted the Young India Sports University and said sportspersons, including cricketer Mohammed Siraj, boxer Nikhat Zareen and athlete Deepti, had been given government jobs for their achievements.
Taking aim at the previous government, he alleged that BC communities had been denied opportunities for higher education and confined to traditional occupations.
He said Telangana was the only state to conduct a BC Census since the British era and stressed its role in improving opportunities for weaker sections.
Revanth Reddy urged youth to draw inspiration from Jyotirao Phule and pursue careers in public life, medicine and engineering. He reiterated his commitment to providing quality education and nutritious food to every student.
