NIMS crosses 1,000 robotic surgeries

90 per cent of the surgeries were performed free of cost

The Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) has achieved a major healthcare milestone by successfully completing 1,000 robotic-assisted surgeries in less than three years, reinforcing its position as a leading public institution for advanced robotic surgery in India. The achievement reflects NIMS' commitment to providing cutting-edge, minimally invasive surgical care while ensuring affordability. Notably, over 90 per cent of the robotic procedures were performed free of cost under government-supported healthcare schemes such as Aarogyasri and the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF).

Among the 1,000 surgeries, the Department of Urology performed 590 procedures, including complex cancer surgeries, robotic renal transplants, paediatric and reconstructive urological surgeries. The Department of surgical gastroenterology completed 248 procedures, covering hepatobiliary, pancreatic, colorectal and upper gastrointestinal surgeries, while the Department of surgical Oncology carried out 162 robotic surgeries, focusing on ovarian, uterine, colorectal and other cancers using organ-preserving and nerve-sparing techniques.

NIMS Director Dr Rahul Devraj, Senior Professor of Urology and Renal Transplantation and Robotic Surgery Coordinator, congratulated the multidisciplinary teams for achieving the milestone. He said the accomplishment reflects the institute's commitment to clinical excellence, innovation and equitable healthcare.

Dr. Devraj also thanked Telangana Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha for his continued support and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for his vision in strengthening healthcare infrastructure, enabling NIMS to emerge as a national centre of excellence in robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery.

With this milestone, NIMS continues to set new benchmarks in delivering advanced, patient-centric surgical care for the people of Telangana and beyond.
