Andhra Pradesh IT and Education Minister Nara Lokesh has lauded a Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) for his proactive initiative in educating bus passengers about safety measures during accidents, calling it a commendable step towards saving lives.
The appreciation comes after a video featuring MVI Siddiq from Krishna district’s Uyyuru went viral on social media. In the video, Siddiq is seen stopping a private bus and directly interacting with passengers, explaining how to respond during emergencies such as accidents or fire incidents.
Addressing passengers inside the bus, the officer advised them not to waste precious time trying to retrieve luggage or belongings during emergencies. “Your life is more important than your possessions. In case of fire or accident, immediately exit the bus and move to a safe location,” he told them. He also stressed the importance of identifying emergency exits at the beginning of the journey and understanding how to use them effectively.
Sharing the video on his official ‘X’ account, Minister Lokesh praised the officer’s initiative, stating, “This kind of proactive awareness by officials on passenger safety is truly commendable. Small precautions like these can save many lives.”
He further urged the public to follow safety guidelines and share the message widely to create greater awareness. The minister highlighted that such efforts go beyond routine inspections and demonstrate a people-centric approach to governance.
The initiative has received widespread appreciation from the public, with many praising the hands-on approach taken by the MVI. Citizens noted that direct engagement with passengers helps reinforce critical safety knowledge, especially in a state where road accidents involving buses have raised concerns in recent times.
Officials believe that similar awareness drives, if implemented on a larger scale, could significantly reduce casualties during road accidents by equipping passengers with essential safety knowledge.
