Medchal–Malkajgiri: The "2nd Medchal–Malkajgiri District Badminton Championship – 2026," organized under the aegis of the Medchal–Malkajgiri District Badminton Association (BAMMD), commenced with great fanfare at Delhi Public School in Nacharam. Athletes, coaches, parents, and badminton enthusiasts from all corners of the district attended in large numbers this state-level sports event, which is scheduled to be held over three days.
Uppala Srinivas Gupta, President of BAMMD and Vice President of the Badminton Association of Telangana (BAT), attended this inaugural ceremony as the Chief Guest and officially inaugurated the tournament. Speaking on this occasion, he stated that fostering an interest in sports among the youth is essential for the development of society. He specifically noted that sports such as badminton cultivate discipline, physical fitness, self-confidence, and leadership qualities among students.
He stated that, under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, the Congress government places high priority on sports and will support athletes in every possible way. The State President of the Badminton Association, Minister Sridhar Babu, and General Secretary Pullela Gopichand stated that they along with myself, in my capacity as State Vice President are actively encouraging rural athletes.
Uppala Srinivas Gupta stated that BAMMD is striving with the objective of identifying talented athletes at the district level and elevating them to the state and national levels. He noted that significant talent is emerging even from rural areas, and the association is taking special measures to provide appropriate opportunities to such athletes. The organizers stated that this championship has received an overwhelming response. A total of 540 entries were registered, with 453 athletes competing across 28 categories. Matches are being conducted for boys and girls in the Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17, and Under-19 age groups. The competitions are proceeding in a highly spirited atmosphere.
