Pushes for sports hub and key connectivity projects

Andhra Pradesh Transport, Youth and Sports Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy held a series of high-level meetings in the national capital, seeking central support to transform the state into a premier sports hub and to strengthen rail and air connectivity in Rayalaseema.

During his Delhi visit, Ramprasad Reddy met Vineel Krishna, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Sports Authority of India (SAI), at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The minister discussed proposals for strengthening sports infrastructure across Andhra Pradesh, with a particular focus on his Rayachoti constituency.

He sought approval of proposals under the Khelo India scheme and requested additional central funding to upgrade sports facilities statewide. “Our goal is to develop Andhra Pradesh into one of the country’s leading sports hubs by creating world-class infrastructure and nurturing young talent,” the minister said after the meeting.

In a separate meeting, Ramprasad Reddy called on Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and urged the Centre to sanction a new railway line between Bengaluru and Kadapa, describing it as a long-pending demand of the people of Rayalaseema. The minister explained that the proposed rail corridor would significantly improve transport connectivity, facilitate trade and accelerate industrial growth in the backward region. “The development of Rayalaseema is possible under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, and enhanced rail infrastructure will be a major catalyst,” he said. Rajya Sabha MP Purandeswari and Annamayya district BJP president Sai Lokesh accompanied the minister during the meeting.

Ramprasad Reddy also met Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu in Delhi and sought expansion of air services from Kadapa Airport. He requested the introduction of new flight routes connecting Kadapa to major cities across the country. The minister highlighted that improved air connectivity would boost trade, industry, tourism and overall economic activity in the region. “Strengthening Kadapa Airport is critical for the comprehensive development of the united Kadapa district and the broader Rayalaseema region,” he said.
